BitBasic – [2009] Sprinkling Rainbows

Pop master of glitch. Jazzy electronica, made from scrambled samples and lots of groove.

Ever heard of the genre “drill & bass”? No? Me neither. Imagine a DJ aiming for dance music, but only equipped with 90’s Disco/Pop/Funk/Techno tapes, a pair of scissors (blunt) and a synthesizer. Yes, the result might take more than the first listening to appreciate, but the sheer amount of funk, groove and rhythm that oozes out of every track is great! Let me show you what I mean by listening to these three tracks: Continue reading “BitBasic – [2009] Sprinkling Rainbows”

Mikk Rebane – [2017] Deviations

Juicy electronica bleeps. Sound like fresh orange juice, familiar yet fresh.

This review is a friendly reminder to myself to go through Bump Foot‘s back catalogue more often to fish for classic netlabel gems. If you are into friendly electronica, you might consider going for a hunt there for yourself. But back to today’s catch: Continue reading “Mikk Rebane – [2017] Deviations”

Push Against New Fakes – [2014] Any Color You Can’t See

Raw and strong IDM. Uncompromising electronica, straight like the pixel’y album art.

Sometimes eerie, sometimes odd, this release at times sounds. Other tracks are clearly aimed at the dance floor. But all in all, this is quite a gem. Don’t let the edge intros distract you from the quite danceable core this IDM release is. Continue reading “Push Against New Fakes – [2014] Any Color You Can’t See”

beat.dowsing – [2012] trigger.melodies

Playful electronica. Synth pads and drums fight against bad weather.

Netlabel Phonocake is a constant source of slightly quirky, but always fun electronic sounds. This album by US artist transient is no exception: happy bleeps and upbeet rhythms fight for (mental) good weather. The full album has 7 tracks, like usual I present 2 noteworthy samples… Continue reading “beat.dowsing – [2012] trigger.melodies”

Golden Grey – [2016] Awaken the Wolf

Glitch-craft ambient. Beautiful electro sound, aiming at the space between C148’s Minecraft and soft, minimal synth quirkiness.

More than a year after I received this public review suggestion on my blog’s About page, I finally got into the right mood for reviewing this quiet gem. If you search for uplifting power pop music, stop right here! If you seek a calm and subtle delight, read on. Continue reading “Golden Grey – [2016] Awaken the Wolf”

Candlegravity – [2013] Junpei

Trippy glitch electronica. This album leans more towards the experimental side. It might need some time to be heard in total. But it might yield some exceptional moments in return. I better let the artist explain:

All of the other songs are from personal experiences both good and bad and the making of this album is the process I turned to, to help me deal with them. It’s my hope that perhaps someone having had a similar experiences, might identify with one of the songs and perhaps find comfort in that process.

Various Artists – [2009] Netaudio 2009 – Acroplane and The Centrifuge

various-artists-2009-netaudio-2009-acroplane-and-the-centrifuge

Classic netaudio sampler. Nowadays, netlabel Acroplane release new albums on Bandcamp. Unfortunately, they did not move all their releases there. Fortunately, their back catalogue is archived at my favourite well-known place. This compilation has 18 diverse tracks from chiptunes over breakcore to glitchy IDM.
