Various Artists – [2006] The Silent Ballet, Volume II: Acquiescence and Oblivion

This compilation more than most rewards front-to-back listening. Much care has gone in arranging the tracks “in order”. Thus it hurts me more than usual to only rip two tracks out of context. So if you can find pleasure in those, the 9 other track in between warrant their long duration (over 6 minutes on average).

1. Magyar Posse – Intercontinental Hustle

The opening track is a masterclass in contemporary (read: post 2000) progressive rock. Remarkable is the lead violin (!) which integrates marvellously with the rock & synth ensemble.

10. Capulet – Champ

The final track takes its time. But once it gets going, it does build up to post rock’s signature walls-of-guitars-with-drums sound carpets. This is what accessible post rock can sound like!
