  • Triplexity – [2008] Live in Triplex City

Triplexity – [2008] Live in Triplex City

Non-cheesy world lounge. A striking balance between combining multiple music and ethnic styles, and producing a coherent musical release.

  • Golden Grey – [2016] Awaken the Wolf

Golden Grey – [2016] Awaken the Wolf

Glitch-craft ambient. Beautiful electro sound, aiming at the space between C148’s Minecraft and soft, minimal synth quirkiness.

  • stockfinster – [2009] Dead Line

    stockfinster – [2009] Dead Line

Carefully crafted electronica. This is a gem from now defunct netlabel Sutemos, back from 2009. Artist stockfinster, whom I have reviewed in this blog before, is a household name in the Creative Commons scene, and for a reason. His productions occupy a quiet, warm corner somewhere between New Age ambient and IDM electronica. I like…

  • Triplexity – [2008] Between Light and Shadow

Triplexity – [2008] Between Light and Shadow

Diverse trip hop lounge world jazz… did I say diverse? Oh my gosh is this album diverse. The common theme is laid-back background music, but otherwise all bets are off. Just listen to the three picks I have selected this week and decide for yourself…

  • Esgi – [2008] Echoes in Time

Esgi – [2008] Echoes in Time

Soundtrack-style ambient music. This album developed out of writing a score to an unnamed project. To me, the result would make the perfect fit with one of the older Civilization or Age of Empires titles.

  • Dream Generator – [2007] Glazed

    Dream Generator – [2007] Glazed

Old-school techno meets IDM. This gem from long-standing (active since 2001 and running) netlabel Kahvi offers an interesting blend of 90’s techno sounds and 00’s more refined approach to Electro. While the beats and bass synth lines sound almost retro to my 2017 ears, melody and harmonies sound fresher.

  • Candlegravity – [2013] Junpei

    Candlegravity – [2013] Junpei

Trippy glitch electronica. This album leans more towards the experimental side. It might need some time to be heard in total. But it might yield some exceptional moments in return. I better let the artist explain: All of the other songs are from personal experiences both good and bad and the making of this album…

  • Gorje Hewek – [2007] Sur-Dramatic Nature

    Gorje Hewek – [2007] Sur-Dramatic Nature

Silently impressive. Gorje Hewek is a master of deep house and similar styles. He has performed at Burning Man 2016. In this old release back at trusty netlabel Fuselab, he shows a more silent side of his craft.

  • Mikael Fyrek – [2011] I Step Into the Advent

Mikael Fyrek – [2011] I Step Into the Advent

Calm and clean, cinematic IDM. What would relaxing lounge music sound in the Tron universe? Pretty much like this. All-electronica sounds, straight from digital synthesizers, soothe your ears. Four tracks in total span about 30 minutes. Two picked tracks and the download link follow below.

  • Smooth – [2015] Vintage 02

    Smooth – [2015] Vintage 02

Elegant monotony. Six tracks, spanning almost one hour, produced using vintage equipment, elegantly fill the air with damp synth sounds and calm beats. Be prepared for Deep House for dark moments.

  • Point – [2014] Flatpad EP

    Point – [2014] Flatpad EP

Cinematic electro grandeur. Located somewhere between movie trailer oomph and ambient big beat electro, there is a small Flatpad EP. Only four tracks long, it covers 30 minutes with unusual yet tasty tunes. Fat bass lines and thick beats reign supreme, but vocal samples and synth pads create some ambience.

  • Various Artists – [2016] Toucan Music Presents 2016

Various Artists – [2016] Toucan Music Presents 2016

Excellent trance mix. Toucan Music is one of the household names for well-produced electronic dance music in the Creative Commons scene. It has been releasing free music as a netlabel for more than ten years now, and its annual mixes never fail to impress. Last year’s mix contains 20 tracks.

  • Various Artists – [2006] These Boots Are Made For Stomping

Various Artists – [2006] These Boots Are Made For Stomping

Reference for Goa & Psy Trance compilations. Monotonous? Yes. Endless beets? Absolutely. Simplistic harmonies? Very much so! If you can with these “deficiencies” of the genre, this release will be an enjoyable ride for your ears. While the music does not offer too much detail to the conscious listener, but is great for recreational, background…

  • North Hive – [2015] Gaia

    North Hive – [2015] Gaia

Detailed ambient treasurebox. If you are easily offended by non-musical “noise” in your music, give this release a try anyway. While North Hive heavily uses field recordings for its compositions, the results often sound quite musical. This album was released at Enough Records.

  • The Easton Ellises – [2012] EP Two

The Easton Ellises – [2012] EP Two

80’s Pop with New Wave. Having proven their disco-suitability with their previous release (review of The Easton Ellises – [2011] EP One) at netlabel Enough Records, this sequel comes as a pleasant surprise. Without deviating from the success recipe, this EP delivers danceable music by truck.
