• Kenny Beltrey – [2008] Yako Emulator

Kenny Beltrey – [2008] Yako Emulator

Here is one more of the musical treasures from the depths of the Kahvi netlabel. Though its recent release date this album sounds more like a disco dance release from the early 90’s. I like it much because of its “kicking” beats. The production is of high quality and sounds fresh. Some vocal samples are…

  • My homepage history

    My homepage history

Just in case anyone is interested in it: How I got into making homepages? The following text summarises what I had realised before I created ojdo.de, my current homepage.

  • Technical University Munich

Time to publish some photos from my university in Munich. While I think the interior of the building 9 (the cool building on the left of the nightly photo) is crime, I quite like the university itself. About two years ago, the place in front of the northern building N1 (fourth photo) got new trees…

  • Self-replication

    Self-replication

Self-replication is the ability of a machine to reproduce all parts it consists of. In a more strict sense it stands for the capability to create a fully functional copy of itself, explicitly including the final assembly. The interest of this concept on the one hand lies in the possibility of conducting long-term space missions,…

  • Steven Dunston – [2003] To Get Home Before Night Comes

Steven Dunston – [2003] To Get Home Before Night Comes

Fully radio compatible pop music is not easy to find in free music sources. So I am very happy to have found this little gem on Jamendo. The album features relaxed Pop music with emphasis on piano and melancholic vocals.

  • Desktop Wallpapers I

Over the years I have created several wallpapers for personal use. Here I share a selection of the images that I consider to be succeeded. They all are in WXGA resolution (1280×800 Pixel).

  • Orphée & Eurydice

The Opéra de Nice currently stages the piece “Orphée & Eurydice”. It tells the famous myth of Orpheus who descends to the underworld to return his beloved Eurydice. Yesterday I watched the modern production; unfortunately it is forbidden to take photos during the performance…

  • Antikythera Mechanism

    Antikythera Mechanism

The Antikythera Mechanism is an old artefact, dated back to about 100 BC. It was originally rediscovered 1902 on board an ancient Greek ship wreck. Its purpose probably was the calculation of planets’ positions. It is far more complex than any object found before from that period.

  • Grasse, Perfumery Fragonard

Today I visited Grasse for the second time. The weather was fine so I could take another bunch of nice pictures from the town itself. On my first visit (in March) I had already visited the production line of Fragonard, an old perfumery.

  • First holi day

Today both weather and time allowed me to go to the beach. I chose Juan-les-Pins (just next to Antibes) and was not disappointed. After 2 hours relaxing at the beach I decided to explore the headland in the south of Antibes. There you can find many villas, a public park and a marvellous coastline.

  • General Fuzz – [2008] Red Balloon

General Fuzz – [2008] Red Balloon

Much of the free electronic music available these days is quite minimalistic, experimental or both. This album is – surprise – different. Although being produced entirely electronic, it is enjoyable also by the non-hardcore electronic listener. It features groovy rhythms, catchy melodies and harmonic, erm… harmonies.

  • Cagnes-sur-Mer

I had already uploaded those pictures to my flickr account. But as I should pay when I want to manage more than 200 photos there, I decided to move all of my photos here. So here is the reissue of my photos on the coast of Cagnes-sur-Mer:

  • Visiting Eze

Eze is an old village east of Nice, France. From its superior position you have a great view over the sea and the neighbouring towns down the coast. The village’s peak is moreover a beautiful garden (admission fee, of course) with flowers and cacti.

  • Technological Singularity

    Technological Singularity

In my English course I had to prepare a presentation on a topic regarding new technologies. Having recently read the novel “Accelerando” by Charles Stross (available online for free) I had a suitable subject ready: a technological singularity. You maybe have heard of other types of singularities in mathematics or cosmology, but this one is…

  • Observatory of Nice

Yesterday I visited the observatory of Nice which nowadays is part of the institution Observatoire de la Côte d’Azur, the combination of 7 astronomic sites in the region. It was finished in 1888, financed by the French banker Raphaël-Louis Bischoffsheim. By that time it possessed the world’s biggest lens. The gallery also shows the botanic…
