About me
Hi! This is the personal homepage of Johannes Dorfner. I have studied Electrical Engineering and Information Technolgy at the Technical University Munich in Germany. Now I am working for the Institute for Energy Economy and Application Technology and writing fancy technical reports and preparing courses.
So it is no wonder that many of my hobbies are quite technical. I quite enjoy surfing the internet and keeping me up to date on new events. I am a frequent visitor of Hydrogenaudio, an internet community for objective audio enthusiasts. I also have a steadily growing music collection I take care of. I plan to write about software and methods to properly manage music files on one’s computer.
Among my other hobbies: swimming, cycling, badminton, climbing (still beginner, but learning…); reading books, magazines and newspapers; visiting museums for modern art and discussing the artists’ geniality — or the lack of it; visiting museums for art, history, nature, technology and science; exploring Munich; cooking; chess; board games; dancing; photography.
What you can find on this page
At the top you can find the primary categories of this blog, which also represent its main purposes. I publish a new post once a week (every Wednesday morning, to be precise). The contents randomly iterate through the categories, which are:
- Audio is the category to post reviews to music releases which are available online for free. Another topic I plan — but did not so far, due to lack of a good concept for actual posts — to write more posts about foobar2000, the audio-player for Windows. It is technically years beyond all other software in this domain: flexible tagging, a fast database engine, powerful tagging capabilities and a flexible graphical user interface make it the Swiss Army Knife for managing and listening every audio archive.
- Picture has become my one and only place to upload my photos to. Until April 2009, I uploaded my pictures at a photostream on flickr or on my personal page on fotocommunity. Now this page houses a photo gallery based on the plugin NextGEN Gallery for WordPress.
- Text is the category with the most vague description: it features articles about topics inspired by philosophy, religion or science fiction. A recent idea: I use this category for “how-to” articles concerning computer usage.
I hope you find some of my posts interesting to read and enjoy the time you spend on my page! I appreciate that and would be glad to read your opinion in form of an email or a comment.
